elementary school libraries have gotten wild
what the fuck is this supposed to be aside from what i think it is
i think it’s for the thickness of the books they should be reading????
No, the 5 Finger Rule is a technique that we teach to our students to help them find a book that is challenging but not frustrating to read. They’re supposed to read the first page of a book and count (using their fingers) how many words they are unable to read or just don’t know. So, finding no words or one word on the first page that they don’t know (0-1 finger) means the book is too easy and they should find a more challenging book. Finding four, five, or more words (4-5 fingers) means the book is too hard and would frustrate them rather than helping them. But if the book only has a couple of words on the first page that they don’t know (2-3 fingers) then it’s probably a good gauge for the rest of the book and would be a good, on-level read for that student.
But, damn, that poster sounds really dirty without context, haha.
Context is important. :P
